Shun and Japanese. Good evening, everyone. I'm Shun, a Japanese teacher. Everyone, how was your day today? How was your weekend? Yes. Uh, lately I've been really busy. Well, lately my hobby has become like my job. So if I have no plans, I work on weekends too. I want to go somewhere for the first time in a while. Yes. Well, I'm busy every day, but when I'm exercising at the gym, it's my alone time and I don't think about work much. So going to the gym every day refreshes me. I listen to podcasts while exercising at the gym. Recently, there was an interesting topic on a podcast. In that podcast, they were discussing the topic 'Are Japanese people happy?' According to a 2023 survey, the percentage of Japanese people who think 'I am happy' is said to be 57 percent. So it seems like half of the people do not feel happy. It seems that it has decreased by 13 percent in the last 13 years. What do you think? Well, let's look at other countries. For example, France. In France, 68 percent of people say they are happy. In America, 76 percent of people say they are happy. In Brazil, 83 percent of people say they are happy. Compared to this, Japanese people don't feel very happy, do they? I think there are various reasons. Well, but I think Japanese people have a high bar for happiness. When I first went to Europe, I was surprised to see that European people always ride bicycles, take walks in the city, or go to parks when it's sunny. Well, that's normal, isn't it? Yeah. But at that time, everyone was really saying, 'I'm happy.' They said, 'I'm very happy because it's sunny and the weather is nice outside.' They said, 'I'm happy just sitting in the park and feeling the sun.' Yeah. I had never heard this in Japan. I hadn't thought that way either. Somehow, I took sunny days for granted and didn't realize how truly happy they made me. But going for a walk outside on a beautiful day is truly a happy thing, isn't it? It feels good, right? But I had truly forgotten about that. Happiness is about noticing, isn't it? In Japan, I think many people feel happiness when spending money. When going to an expensive restaurant. When staying at a nice hotel. When buying a car. Of course those are happy times, but I think happiness is much more simple and straightforward. For example, the time of drinking delicious coffee every morning. It's an obvious but happy time, isn't it? When you're eating a delicious lunch. When you're lying down a little on the sofa. At night, the time spent relaxing with your wife and kids, doing nothing. I think you can find many happy moments. I think Japan is too convenient nowadays. You can buy whatever you want anytime, right away. You can easily go wherever you want to go. But even so, we can't become happy, can we? I think if you can't notice happiness, you can't become happy. Everyone, life is short, you know. Let's truly find the small happiness every day and try to feel a lot of happiness. Yes. Well, today I tried sharing with you all what I've been feeling recently. Yes. Then everyone, let's meet again in the next episode. See you then. Good night.
